BRIEF NOTES ON SEVERAL SMALL BUT INTERESTING AND POSSIBLY IMPORTANT FACTORS IN DENTISTRY AND MEDICINE

np (San Francisco?), nd (1950s-60s?). Item #99-8092

Five typewritten pages, 8.5 x 11", author unknown. Toning, soiling, fold creases else good condition. These are observations written by a doctor who has practiced medicine for almost thirty years. First, dentists should persuade patients to not use toothpicks because he witnessed a surgery where a toothpick had perforated an area of the colon. Then there's the use/disuse of dentures where a patient "munched" on dried peaches which later swelled up in her stomach causing total obstruction of the bowel. The doctor is also concerned with the effect of a modern invention, referring to bubble gum. In a recent medical journal was the story of a five year old child who was diagnosed with acute appendicitis who actually had an obstruction of the bowel caused by a "large wad of bubble-gum." There are also comments on the tomato and on navy beans. Interesting.
