Broadside "ANOTHER GREAT BALL GAME. Mike Redmond with his famous IRISH BALL TOSSERS From the Kalamazoo City League will play at Willow Park, Allegan, on SATURDAY SEPT. 21, '95..."

Allegan, 1895. Item #99-7019

Oblong 7.5 x 11.5". Edge tears, chipping, creased, fold creases, archivally repaired down the center (had been in two pieces but no longer), light toning else good condition. Rest of the broadside: "Mike had two natural Irish coachers that keep the crowd in a constant uproar. They are perfect gentlemen and one of the best ameture(sic) teams in Kalamazoo county. Allegan will have an extra strong team for this game. Game called promptly at 2 O'clock sharp. Admission 25 cents. Grand stand free." Manager/player (catcher) Michael "Mike" Redmond was also a manager/player for the Kalamazoo "Green Stockings" 1894-1896. It was not uncommon for players to play for two different teams during the same time period, depending on their schedules. Or, the "Irish Ball Tossers" could be a nickname for the "Green Stockings." There were many Irishmen playing in the Michigan amateur baseball leagues including outfielder Cornelius "Con" Redmond, Mike Redmond's brother. SCARCE amateur baseball ephemera.
