Charles Lindbergh cover stamped with a horseshoe and "Lindbergh Flies The Air Mail St. Louis, Mo. 2-20-28"

St. Louis, 1928. Item #99-6353

3.5 x 6.5", 10 cent stamp, cover is in two pieces, soiled and chipping. Date stamped front and back. Addressed to the President of the University Club, Detroit, from the Town Club Of Saint Louis. Lindbergh was an airmail pilot prior to his historic Trans-Atlantic flight, so the post office wanted to take advantage of his newfound fame. They persuaded him to do another airmail flight, actually two, which took place February 20 & 21, 1928. The mail, which all bore the horseshoe stamp, was too excessive for one plane and several had to be used. Since he couldn't fly all those planes, the post office assured the public that Lindbergh flew each of those around the airfield. Sold as is.

Price: $20.00
