(Temagami) Ontario, February 16, 19. Item #99-6343
Oblong 8.25 x 11.5", green, not cancelled. Creasing, small edge tear along a fold line, staple holes in one corner else good condition. The Big Dan Mine was started in 1900 in Temagami, Ontario by Dan O'Connor. It was a productive mine but a fire in 1907 destroyed all the milling buildings and the mine closed down. In 1949, under the name of Big Mines Limited, drilling resumed but the results were not satisfactory and the mine closed again. Other samples were taken over the years but none proved worth opening the mine and it still sits idle today. No. 637, made out to Carol G. Clos. SCARCE.
