Cancelled pictorial envelope from Detroit's Richmond & Backus blank book and stationary company and addressed to the Mich. Peninsular Car Co.

3.5 x 6.5". Postally used, opened, light wear and soiling else very good condition. Postmarked Detroit Nov. 25, 1893 with two cent Columbus stamp. The front shows printed image of a leather bound ledger with the company initials and their addresses below, the reverse lists various rates for "The Improved Trial Balance Book". The Michigan-Peninsular Car Company built railroad cars for almost half of 1893, the company was closed because of lack of orders due to the Panic of 1893. Until the dawn of the automotive era it was Detroit's largest manufacturer.
