Notebook of Harold S. Anderson, Litchfield, Michigan from October 18, 1915 to February 6, 1919 [Detroit]

6.5 x 4", flip top, printed on front cover "High School Notebook No. 1", written at bottom "Harold S. Anderson 95 Blaine Ave. Detroit, Mich". Wraps, unpaginated, (approx. 40 pages). Light wear, soiling and creasing else good. He writes sporadically about his activities and goings on in his hometown, mainly prior to his high school graduation and then later when he moved to Detroit. From Litchfield: working at Hager's store, playing football, wrestling at the YMCA, Devil's Lake on July 4th, hanging out with friends in Camden, Homer and Reading, attended a dance in Hillsdale for the "drafted men", December 1918 fire that destroyed Ford's store and Henry Stoddard's. In Detroit: friends Max and Clayton got jobs at Dodge Bros., Harold worked at American Car and Foundry, went to the Alhambra (Theatre), saw the Detroit Tigers play 12 innings against the Cleveland Indians and lost 3-2, went to Belle Isle to see a "sham battle". He ends this notebook recuperating from appendicitis. Although the entries are not greatly detailed and infrequent (writes a couple of months in one year, three months in another and the longest in Detroit eleven months) there is enough information to give a feel for the time period whether in a small town or big city.
