Stock Certificate for 10 shares from the Borough and Blood Buggy Company of Marshall, Michigan.

Eagle vignette, 8.25 x 11, black lettering on a light green and cream background, orange on the reverse. Light creasing, fold creases with one small edge tear else very good. Issued to S.(L.?) L. Bradley, dated September 15, 1906, and signed by the secretary J.H. Fountain and the president J.M. Borough. Jonas M. Borough started up in the carriage and harness business in the small town of Samaria, Michigan, then on to Sylvania, Ohio, in 1883 where he manufactured carriages in addition to the retail operation. A fire destroyed all the businesses in Sylvania so Borough became a traveling salesman and remained on the road until 1902 when the Borough and Blood Buggy Company was formed. In an article in June 1910 issue of the Technical World Magazine, Rube (Reuben) Borough, son of Jonas Borough, wrote an article entitled "The Economic Significance of the Automobile." He indicates that the article "is not to be interpreted as a message of despair over the condition of those carriage manufacturers still in the field . . . (his) company will in the present year do the biggest volume of business in its history." Scarce ephemera.
