Eight engraved plates, 11 x 9, full tree calf, 322 pp, covers a bit rubbed with a couple of spots, extremities bumped, tiny holes at top and bottom of spine, hinges loose, old bookplate (Essex Historical Society), prelims missing, top margin of title page missing, pp toned and spotted. FIRST ED IN ENGLISH of this collection of Hindu Laws. At the bottom of the title page is the inscription: "Presented to the Essex Historical Society by John Howland of Providence R.I. Received Sept. 13, 1831. Howland was a Revolutionary War veteran, a barber, and a prominent citizen in Providence in the early 1800s.
