Wood frame 20 x 24 with glass. Frame has scratches and abrasions, two holes through the top (for hanging?) else good, glass intact. Document not examined out of frame, heavily toned, stained, missing small pieces. The 18th Michigan Volunteers was organized on August 26, 1862, in Hillsdale, Michigan. The majority of Company H came from the counties of Hillsdale and Monroe, a large number of the men came from Camden, Hillsdale County. Some of the cities represented were Deerfield, Detroit, Dundee, Milan, Monroe, Jonesville. The regiment did not participate in any major battles but stayed busy: March to Danville, KY; fought against Pegram's forces, Heckman's Bridge March, Curtis Wells, Pond Springs, Athens-pursuit of Wheeler to Shoal's Creek, Defense of Decatur. They mustered out at Nashville, Tennessee, on June 26, 1865. Document only covers their actions up to January 6, 1863. The regiment lost 293 enlisted men: 18 mortally wounded and 293 to disease. Sold as is. Scarce. Must be picked up -- will NOT mail.
