Photo Album from 1895 showing scenes in and around the Village of Hatch Beauchamp, Somerset, England.

Hatch Beauchamp. 1895. Item #98-4384

Twelve photos in album plus three loose photographs, 9.5 x 7, blindstamped brown cloth with gilt decoration, six two-sided album pages. Covers have light wrinkling and rubbing, corners and spine tips bumped and frayed and extremities worn, spotting to endpapers, light soiling and smudging, small tears to album pages else good, photos have light rubbing and creasing, a few photos are light else good/very good. An ink inscription on the inside front cover reads "A few recollections of ‘Zumerzet.’ With our love and best wishes for A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. December 1895. From the Artist and his model." Most likely the artist is the photographer and the model is the young woman who appears in some of the photographs. All but two of the photographs are labeled. (Nice unlabeled one of a drinking establishment with this sign over the door "Charles Vile Hatch Inn Post Horses.") The first photo is of 72 Queens Road, Finsbury Park, London but the rest are of Hatch Beauchamp and vicinity. Shown in some of the photos are "Hache Court.side view," "Wesleyan Church Hatch," "Hatch Church." There is one labeled "Victoria Street (Taunton) Wesleyan Choir." The three loose photographs, all labeled, have creasing, spotting, chipping, tears. They are: "Oddicombe Beach, Babbicome, S. Devon" (4.5 x 3), "Hache Church" (6 x 4), and "Taunton Kings College. Where I attended 3 years as a Scholarship boy under the Head Mastership of late Rev. Wm. Tuckwell" (oblong 4.25 x 6.5). An attractive grouping.
