Strohmeyer & Wyman, publishers, New York; Underwood & Underwood. 1900. Item #98-2831

Oblong 3.5 x 7, tan card. Light scratches, smudging, reverse has soiling, spotting, light chipping, ink note "South Africa" else good. Image shows a deceased soldier on an operating table, surrounded by the doctor and his assistant and three soldiers, one of whom is placing a cloth over the face of the deceased. The Boer War, 1899-1902, was the result of a long standing conflict between the Boers (Dutch settlers in South Africa) and Great Britain. British protested and the Boers sent an army into the British section of South Africa. The Boers were successful at first but upon the arrival of Lord Robert with well trained troops the war went in favor of the British. Most of the stereo views of the Boer War show Lord Robert's troops.
