Group of 15 Black and White Photos, including three real photo postcards, of a Chinese family and their relatives/friends, c. 1920s, from the San Francisco/Northern California area.

Sizes vary from 3.25 x 4.25 to 5 x 7, almost all professional shots, two are mounted, two are matted w/ a folder, rest are loose. Light wear, creasing, soiling, one photo postcard clipped, one photo has a clipped corner and small tears else photos are good/very good. One photo has pencil Chinese characters on the reverse else no notes etc. There are four photographers' names on five of the photos: E.N. Baxter Log Cabin Studio, Wawona, CA (1), May's Photo (San Francisco) (2) and Senbun, San Francisco (1). The photos: family posing with car on a road that's under a redwood (Baxter); same family, on a rock outcropping?, a small box camera nearby; man sitting on a porch swing holding a baby (photo postcard); same baby, laying on a porch swing (photo postcard); a family in the woods (photo postcard); winter scene, man standing next to canoes, cabins in the background; man with round glasses wearing native? clothing (May's); man in theatrical dress holding a decorative scroll; same man but different scroll; man wearing theatrical costume (May's); three performers in costume on a stage; mounted studio portrait of two young girls in native clothing (Great Eastern); matted studio portrait in folder of a young woman in native clothing (Senbun); matted studio portrait in folder of a young man in Western clothing wearing an apron? that is covered with rosettes? and mounted studio portrait of a young woman in native clothing. A bit more information on some of the photographers: In the 1920s, Ed Baxter ran a studio and photo shop in the old Galen Clark cabin near Big Trees Lodge in Yosemite; Isabelle May Chan and her husband Leo Chan Lee ran May's c. 1920s; Senbun was located at 818 Clay St. in San Francisco's Chinatown. A nice collection with varying subject matter. Sold as a lot.
