Constable Geikie. Minister of Presbyterian Church of Canada. With anti-German sentiments running high during WWI, Berlin changed its name to honor Britain's Minister of War, Lord Kitchener, who was killed in battle. The Scottish born Rev. Geikie immigrated to Canada in 1843 and in 1845 became an ordained minister of the Congregational Church. He later returned to Europe but returned to Canada in 1854 and became a Presbyterian minister in 1855 and settled at St. Andrew's Church in Berlin, Ontario. He himself was married in 1858. He eventually went to Australia where he died in 1898. He wrote several books during this time period. This marriage certificate is a nice bit of pre-Confederation history.
