Five pp carbon copy, 13 x 8.5, metal clasps at top, with light blue paper backer, wrinkles at bottom of first page, folds, paper toned, some staining and edgewear to blue paper backer else a nice item. SIGNED (with mark) BY THOMAS ROCK (President of Committee), ELEPHANT, WILLIAM LITTLE AX, SWITCH LITTLE AX, BOLITHA HOOD, AND ONE OTHER. With witness signature by Jacob Buckheart & Charles Switch; and with signed paragraph attesting to accuracy of translation by Thomas W. Alford. Also affixed is eight page contract, May 5, 1900, between Richard C. Adams and the Absentee Shawnee regarding his duties as attorney, SIGNED BY ADAMS AND ALFORD PLUS MARKS BY THOMAS ROCK, THOMAS WASHINGTO AND SWITCH LITTLE AX, with witness signatures, signature of Judge Burford attesting to the contract, and manuscript paragraph from Alford regarding translation. The Shawnee were looking for $3.75 million after being forced to leave land in Kansas that had been given to them by the Spanish government in 1825 and thousands of dollars from the US Government and the Texas Government for lands they had been forced to leave. Interesting and historical. Marked "Original" on back.
