Printed by J.D. and sold by Tho. Atkinson at the White Swan: London, 1705. Item #97-5357

12.5 x 8, full leather, 424 pp, covers heavily worn, front cover detached (as are front blanks), rear cover almost detached with loss of leather at hinge, spine chipped, missing leather spine label, ink names on title, minor spotting but overall a nice, clean, readable copy. SWAF. Second Edition carefully corrected. Sidney, great nephew of Sir Philip Sidney, was a republican, though not a fan of Cromwell; he spent a good deal of time in Europe in exile, finally being executed by Charles II. This book, written soon before his death, was his great plea against absolute monarchy.
