A collection of original black & white photographs of a US Navy Beechcraft airplane crash at the Grosse Ile, Michigan, Naval Air Station, c 1950s.

np (Grosse Ile, MI), nd (c 1950s). Item #96-9799

Five 8 x 10 and seven 4 x 5 contact prints showing the wreckage and fire-fighting crews, minor wear else vg. The left wing seems particularly badly damaged, and the left engine was detached. One photo shows burned out cockpit. Photos were probably taken by Detroit bookselling legend Thomas Schlientz, who was a Navy photographer in the early 1950s. These photos are from his private collection, and were probably taken by him. One interesting aerial shot shows fire fighters spraying foam on the plane and the runway next to the plane, with actual flames still alive.
