Copper plate engravings, 13 x 8.5, leather w/raised bands, gilt lettering on spine labels, 838 + index. Front cover detached, covers well worn, rubbed, scuffed, leather cracking, corners bumped and leather worn away, spine tips worn, light wear to gilt, bookplate, endpapers soiled, spotted & browned, small tears, text has mispagination, occasional spotting, smudging, soiling, creased corners else contents are clean & good. Some of the selections are "Voyages and Travels into Brasil and the East-Indies," by John Nieuhoff; "The Travel and Adventures of Captain John Smith . . ."; "An Account of Greenland to Monsieur de la Mothe de Vayer" by la Peyrere; "The Life of Christopher Columbus" by his son; "Pyramidographia: Or, a Description of the Pyramids in Egypt" by John Greaves. Mr. Nieuhoff's account, by far the largest at 369 pages, also has the most engravings. Scenes of natives, flora & fauna, animals, cities, maps, fruit, fish. Engravings also appear on a much smaller scale in four other selections, including the one on the pyramids. In total, there are 42 full-page of which 27 are fold-out, 49 smaller ones in the text, 6 maps, of which one is a fold-out and another is in the text. Very attractive and informative engravings.
