TYPED LETTER SIGNED TO HENRY A. MONTGOMERY, OSBORN'S WAYNE COUNTY CAMPAIGN MANAGER IN HIS 1918 U.S. SENATORIAL CAMPAIGN VS. TRUMAN NEWBERRY AND HENRY FORD.

Item #95-6261

Sault de Sainte Marie July 24, 1918. 1pg, 11 x 8.5", on Osborn's letterhead, staple holes, some discolor, folds else vg. Regarding the campaign: Newberry had agreed to withdraw if Osborn would do the same, and they could agree on a candidate; another hopeful, former senator (William Alden) Smith would agree to the pact only if Henry Ford would, too. Osborn: "Of course, I refused to go in with Ford." This refusal led to a bitter campaign between Newberry and Ford, won by Newberry who was later tossed from the Senate for dirty tricks in the campaign. Nice content.
