Paris 1859-64. 6.5x4", vellum, 80 pre-printed pages filled-in in ink, cover spotted and worn, interior foxed, worn and soiled else a remarkably well-preserved copy of a French soldier's identification papers. Issued to a Chretien Rogy, boook details his appointments, personal info (yeaux gris), clothing, weapons, pay and expenses, and even his horse. Neat printed section in back lists crimes and penalties for soldiers at war. Also included is a printed certificate filled-in and signed allowing Rogy to travel to Versailles (certificate well-worn). A fascinating account of a mid-19th century French soldier's life.
