4.5 x 6”, mounted to index card, some staining at fold creases (some slightly affecting text), some small, light pencil writing at left margin (“Phila. Sept. 21, 1794 Adjt. Genl. Of PA”) else good. Harmar served under George Washington and “Light-Horse” Henry Lee. Harmar's force of Federal troops and militia were badly defeated by a tribal coalition led by Little Turtle in an engagement known as "Harmar's Defeat", "The Battle of the Maumee", "The Battle of Kekionga", or "The Battle of the Miami Towns". In this letter closing, Harmar writes “With the greatest respect, your most obedient and humble servant…” AND SIGNS HIS NAME WITH FLOURISH. Perhaps this letter was written to George Washington? SCARCE signature.
