14 x 11", black/white, tissue guard. Minor wrinkles/wear, tissue guard chipped else very good condition, Shows a seated Grey looking dashing in a three piece suit, chair covering has an elaborate floral pattern. The photo is identical to an oil painting of him by Ruth Gustava which he sat for in 1939 (the same year he died) and was completed by her in 1940. The painting was recently up for auction, accompanying information indicated she was friends with his family. Brownella Baker was Grey's secretary (one of many over the years) in the 1930s. The "Western Chronicle", Weston, Missouri, of July 1935 reports that "Miss Brownella Baker, personal secretary to Zane Grey…visited…her aunt…last Thursday…She is an attractive brunette in her twenties…much of the Grey style of writing comes from the hand of this briliant Miss Brownella who takes Zane Grey's notes in the rough and coverts them into readable books…" BOLDLY SIGNED "TO BROWNELLA ZANE GREY".
