6.5 x 4", full calf, gilt ruled raised bands, red spine label, gilt dec edges, 208pp + lottery ad. Covers rubbed, scuffed/scraped, deep scratch on front cover, corners and spine tips bumped and worn, bookplate of Sir John Cope, Bart (1768-1851), contemporary clipping pasted below bookplate indicated that this was based on a real occurrence, front inner hinge cracked, scattered foxing, occasional pencil notes (putting in names that were blanked out) else good to very good condition. Ann Northey Whitby Wolseley, 1724-1782, is the subject of this fictionalized account of her scandalous life. She was married four times: John Whitby, Sir William Wolseley, John Robins and Christopher Hargrave. After Whitby died, she became involved with Robins shortly before becoming involved with her elderly neighbor Wolseley. Did she marry Whitby before or after marrying Wolseley (after) who got the marriage declared invalid. Robins died soon after and Ann married for the foruth time to Hargrave.
