Covers rubbed, scuffed, scratched, spines darkened and rubbed, inner hinges cracked, Volumes I & III have contemporary ink notes indicating where the plates are to be located (in these vols) else very good condition. Textblock tight. The plates are either portraits of the criminals or the scenes showing them being punished such as the guillotine, or even more gruesome, being impaled on a pole. Some of the crimes: fortune telling, maiming, murder, piracy, rape, smuggling, strangulation, torture. Lots of interesting biographical sketches. The publication of the Criminal Recorder started in 1804. Four volumes, very SCARCE.
