Frontispiece by S.H. Sime, 10 x 7.5", vellum backed cloth, top edge gilt, 322pp. Covers have light soiling & wear, bookplate (Claudius Edmund Delbos, Tonnacour). Edward John Plunkett, Lord Dunsany, 1878-1957, was an Irish loyalist, writer, and dramatist who also served in the military and touches on war on two tipped-in autographed letters. Both are addressed to "Mr. Delbos" (name on bookplate), one from 1917 and one from 1920. The earlier letter was written Ebrington Barracks, Derry. He was commissioned a Captain in the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers. In 1916, while on leave (the year before this letter) he drove to Dublin to offer assistance during the Easter Rising and ended up with a bullet in his skull. He recovered and later served in the trenches and wrote propaganda. In the later letter he writes "...perhaps we have entered a long period of wars like those of Napoleon..." and he hopes to see (Delbos) again.
