One half sheet oblong 7 x 8.5", three 8.5 x 11" (two with one stapled attachment each). Fold creases/creasing, toning else good. Usual chain-of-command handstamps, various department head signatures. Commander Slayton has signed three of the four items. The 1940 letter signed by Admiral Nimitz recalls Commander Slayton to active duty in the Hydrographic Office, Knox signed the 1942 half sheet & the 1943 letter instructing him to go to attend a meeting of the Pan-American cartographers in Mexico City and Forrestal's letter instructs Slayton to go as a delegate of the U.S. Navy to Second Pan American Congress in Rio de Janiero "and thence to such other places as may be necessary". An interesting piece of information on Commander Slayton was that he was a magician. He was a member of the Society of American Magicians and the International Brotherhood of Magicians. He performed during the war at various places including the Washington Stage Door Canteen and Walter Reed Hospital. A total of four signed items sold as a lot.
