Los Angeles, August 29, 1969. Paperback. Very Good. Item #21-8905

Personal letterhead, 11 x 8.5". 2pp. Fold creases, rusty paper clip mark on reverse of last page else very good condition. Trumbo mildly chastises Dan Bessie "I'm afraid it isn't possible for me to operate on the theory that if I don't hear from you, you are still interested in making Johnny". He writes that the optional agreement expires soon and that he has other alternative but prefers Dan's "approach to the material". The rest of the letter deals with the terms of agreement. Trumbo and Alvah Bessie were two of the members of the "Hollywood 10", a group of writers, producers and directors who appeared before the House Un-American Committee in 1947. and refused to answer the now famous question about being or having been part of the Communist Party. " The Hollywood 10" were all found guilty of contempt of Congress, fined and sent to jail. Dan Bessie is a screenwriter, director and animator. Dalton Trumbo wrote the screenplay and was the director of "Johnny" which was released in 1971. Great association piece.
