Steel engraved frontis of Thomas Bewick, 54 full page plates, numerous text illus., 11 x 8.5", full black leather, raised bands, teg, gilt lettering and inner dentelles, xxiv, 108, 104, Covers, corners and spine very well worn, front inner hinge and textblock cracked, rear cover detached from textblock, offsetting, toning, scattered light spotting. Textblock signature uneven. Comes with: "Bewick Gleanings" a printed letter from Julia Boyd to the editor of the "Athenaeum" regarding their book reviewer's opinion of her book "that it was undesirable that this book should ever have been published", 8 x 6.5", (12)pp, toned with offsetting, creasing, spotting and edge tears; an order form for "Bewick Gleanings" (which includes glowing reviews), 10.5 x 8", (4)pp, creased, toned, torn and spotted; a typed receipt from 1961 from bookseller William Wolfe for a Thomas Bewick ALS (not included) with a complimentary engraving of Bewick (enclosed), receipt creased with cello tape, engraving is toned, soiled and spotted.
