5.5 x 3.5", leather backed boards, 96pp, ink inscription (H.H. Otis to his son W.H. Otis 1897), name & # on title, right upper blank margin of intro page lacking, foxed, corners heavily rubbed. FIRST EDITION. Howes also ascribes this to the publisher, Joseph Mitchell: John Stewart, 1786-1823, the son of free Negro parents, began ministering to the Wyandott Inidians in Sandusky, Ohio. He was able to convert several members of the tribe, including chiefs, starting the first very successful Methodist mission among the Indians of the United States.
