Leather bank book belonging to William Elmes Of San Francisco dated August 1875 to March 1, 1876 from the Pioneer Land and Loan Association Bank Of Savings And Deposit

6.5 x 4", printed leather covering stiff boards, unpaginated, first deposit was $300 in "Cash Gold". Covers rubbed, soiled with edgewear, contents have light soiling else very good. COMES WITH: an unidentified saw and a mallet, 3.5 x 2.25", crackling, scratches, pencil initials, no photographer listed and a small piece of paper approximately 8 x 5" that is in several pieces but contains a list of the births (and one marriage) of the Elmes family: parents and eight children, all named. All were born in England, either in Taplow, Buckinghamshire or either Datchet or Windsor in Berkshire. William was born in 1840 and we're guessing that he is one of the men in the tintype. A check of records revealed that William died in Belmont, San Mateo County, California in 1910 of mitral insufficiency, he had been a gardener. A total of three items, sold as a lot. SCARCE.
