Original photo of Whitman as frontis, 8 x 5", half calf; marbled boards, vp, a rough copy with spine cover off (one section remains loose), extremities bumped, covers quite worn, bookplate from former owner inside front cover over the remnants of a past owner's bookplate, another former owner's bookplate inside rear cover, former owner's ink name at top of front fly, rear cover almost detached, front inner hinge cracked, pp toned, foredge of pp33-34 of "Democratic Vistas" with small tear; a sort-of disaster of a copy, but SIGNED BY WALT WHITMAN ON THE PHOTO FRONTISPIECE, WITH "born May 31, 1819" ADDED BELOW. The bottom part of the "9" in the date descends below the photo onto the page. SECOND ISSUE with blank page between "As a Strong Bird..." and "Memoranda..." With small tipped-in sheet in back advertising "Leaves of Grass" and "Two Rivulets". One of about 600 copies printed. One of the former owners was George Abraham Crawley, a British designer and artist.
