Volumes I and III [of III]. 8.5 x 5", full mottled calf, gilt dec covers, spine panels highly gilt dec, red spine labels with gilt lettering, marbled edges, i-xxix, (1)-411; (1)-415. Covers have minor scuffing/scraping, edgewear, chipping/small loss of leather on lower edges and spine tips, spines darkened, outer hinges worn, corners bumped/worn, inner hinges cracked, bookplates, ink names, minor worming to Volume III, pencil and ink checkmarks and lines in margins, scattered light staining in margins, bindings tight. Limerick County native Dr. Sylvester O'Halloran wrote several medical treatises, was instrumental in establishing to Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and was very interested in Gaelic poetry and Irish history. The bookplate and one set of signatures belonged to Thomas A.E. Weadock who immigrated with his parents from County Wexford, Ireland to Ohio and later graduated the University of Michigan's law school. He continued his career in Michigan becoming Bay County's prosecuting attorney, mayor of Bay City, member of Congress for the 10th district, professor of law at the University of Detroit and more. The proud Irishman was also a member of the Ancient Order Of Hibernians. The other set of signatures belongs to John V. Brennan, a Detroit, Michigan Recorder's Court judge and later a judge in Michigan's Third Circuit Court. An attractive but incomplete set with good associations.
