John Burrough's Original "Arrangement of Places" booklet for Mark Twain's 70th Birthday party at Delmonico's on December 5, 1905

np (NY), 1905. Paperback. Very Good. Item #21-4055

9.5 x 7.5", tied wraps, covers toned, worn, soiled and splash-stained, front upper fore-corner dog-eared, contents soiled with a stain along the foredge; booklet shows the seating arrangements for the tables marked A to V, two to a page. This is John Burrough's own copy with his name in ink at top of front cover, and his place (at table G marked with his initials) in relation to Twain's (at table B, marked with his initials). Other guests included Andrew Carnegie, Irving Bacheller, Charles Eastman, William Dean Howells, George Ade, Rupert Hughes, Henry Van Dyke, Edwin Markham, Emily Post, Rex Beach, and a number of other literati of the time. Fascinating. The birthday party was given by publisher George Harvey, who gave each guest a foot-tall plaster statue of Twain; and, there was a 40 piece orchestra. Great souvenir. Rare.
