Extremely well illus. with etchings, lithographs, photogravures, engravings; 13 x 1-.5", quarter leather, blindstamping, gilt lettering, blue and silver floral patterned endpapers, pages have a watermark: Les Lettres et Les Arts, BFK Rives; 300, 360, 360, 360. Covers extremely well worn, soiled, spotted, stained, scuffed/scraped, spines torn, outer hinges cracked, corners and spine tips repaired, vol 4 is disbound and missing top part of spine and front outer hinge tape repaired as is back cover, inner hinges cracked, textblocks cracked, uncut pages, soiling, smudging, small tears, chipping, spotting, waterstaining, toning, some tissue guards torn, vol 2 has a loose blank page and offsetting from errata slip. There are more that 350 illus., 18 of which are hand colored/full page. Some of the artists are Moreau, Fleming, Boutet de Monvel, Lami, Lynch, Vallett. Famous authors who contributed were Ouida - "The Bullfinch", Daudet- "Struggle for Life" and Dumas- "The Hand". Despite the condition this is still a beautifully illustrated set. AS IS.
