May 27, '97". The firm of H&C Treacher was founded by Harry Treacher and his brother Charles. Upon Charles' death in 1871, Harry's Nephew, Henry Phillip Moreton became his partner. September 1891 was a sad month for the family, Henry died on September 5 at age 45 and Harry on September 29 at age 59. It was thought that the death of Henry caused Harry's death to decline, he suffered a stroke and died soon after. The inscription, dated almost eight years after their deaths, was addressed to Ellen Moreton, possibly the widow of Henry Philip Moreton or sister in law.
