The majority are partial issues and a handful are just one page. On some without a front page an attempt was made at the year and month. The journal covers the U.S. and Canada, the criminals are mainly white males starting at age 16 until?. The crimes committed include extortion, rape, perjury, "grafting", "highway robbery", sodomy, hose/mule theft, spying, "safe blowing", violation of liquor law, unlawful practice of medicine, "clairvoyant and palmist". The latter crime was perpetrated by the traveling duo of Professor Lamont and Doctor Storey. Looking for aliases, perhaps one of these: "Punk Drucker", "Rooster Face Harris", "Onion Burglar", "Piggie", "Baldy Egan", "Banana Joe", "Missouri Kid". Not to be forgotten- Charles Lawless- that is his real last name. how to know if you have located the right person? Look for deformed or missing fingers, amputated legs and arms, syphilis scars, no teeth or just a few, eyes that have "peculiar, vicious expression" and of course, tattoos. A wide variety of tattoos: tattooed lady and guitar, clasped hands with double heart pierced by dagger, nude lady under palm tree, American eagle and shield with date 1898 (Spanish-American war veteran?). Interestingly, a lot of these guys had vaccination scars. Armed with these tips, look around next time you're at the circus, a few worked at Sells & Ringling. If you're on the other side of the law and need supplies there are ads for police and telegraph systems, jail and cell locks, handcuffs and leg irons, police caps and helmets, Colt Automatic Pistols, Thompson Submachine Gun, Bertillon & Fingerprint Systems of Identification.
