Nineteen (of twenty) full page color plates by (Jean Baptiste) Leveille, 8 x 5", contemporary mottled calf, gilt dec spine, leather spine label with gilt lettering, marbled endpapers. Covers very well worn/rubbed/scraped, lacks about half of spine cover, outer/inner hinges cracked, paperclip mark on title page, foxing, smudging, light staining, edge tear to page opposite plate V, plate XIX has a horizontal tear across the center (doesn't affect illus.), textblock tight. Plates are bright and sharp, there is no "gap" after plate XIX, maybe bound minus plate XX. Stamped in gilt inside front cover on the leather "Lelievre, Nouvelle Orleans." Jacques-Felix Lelievre was a New Orleans bookseller, publisher and writer who emigrated to Louisiana in 1834. He is most well known for his book "Nouveau Jardinier de la Louisiane", 1838, which was one of only two books published on gardening in Louisiana in the 19th century. The artist, (J.B.) Leveille was one of the foremost French anatomical illustrators. With errata. Very SCARCE, FIRST EDITION.
