Cabinet card of Reverend Daniel Sylvester Tuttle, missionary bishop of Utah, Montana and Idaho

6.5 x 4". Light wear and soiling, his name in pencil on reverse else very good condition. Daniel Tuttle was consecrated a bishop of the Episcopal Church in 1866 and began his life in missionary work. He arrived in Utah in 1867, the Episcopal Church was the first Christian religion to establish a non-Mormon congregation. Soon after Tuttle arrived he had a cordial meeting with Brigham Young who told him if he heard any rumors about the Mormon Church or himself to please let him know. Although the Bishop did not agree with Mormon doctrine, he was friends with his neighbors and respected some of the programs and practices of the church. He wrote "Reminiscences Of A Missionary Bishop" in which more is learned about his time in Utah.
