4 x 2.5". Light wear, scattered spotting, his name in pencil on reverse else very good condition. Fields was part of a group of investors that formed the American Telegraph Company in 1855, two years later after acquiring backing from both the American and British governments the first transatlantic cable was laid between Newfoundland and Ireland. Upon completion in 1858, Queen Victoria sent a message in Morse code to President Buchanan. Unfortunately, it broke down a short time later and wasn't completed until 1866.
