Transfer of an 1837 patent for an "Improved Portable Mill" from Franklin Chubb, Newark, Ohio to Robert Holmes and David B. Ellis, Maple, Ionia County, Michigan on January 31, 1839

One sheet 12.5 x 15.5", folded in half to 12.5 x 8", printed on the front of each half. Fold creases, fold/edge tears, toning, light soiling and spotting, the reverse is blank except for a recent pencil note, contemporary ink note "Patent Mill Deed Holmes & Ellis to Chubb". The document is signed by Alexdr Chubb, Daniel Hunt, Robert Holmes and David B. Ellis. There is an almost full page "schedule" which details the workings of the mill. Maple was first settled in 1837, the same year Michigan achieved statehood.
