Cabinet card: J Falk, light scratches, mount has creasing, lacks tip of one corner, the back has abrasions, ink name "C.W. Lattui? (Sattui?) 1901 Cantor Av" else good. Eugen Sandow, known as the father of body building, worked for Ziegfeld for many years. Letters, telegrams, sheet music, misc. newspaper/magazine clippings are 1907-1911, 1913, 1917, 1920, 1921, 1928 and 1940. Ziegfeld has 6 TLS (5 Hanlon, 1 George B. Rogers) and 2 ALS (Hanlon). Anna Held has 1 ALS (J. Simpson & Co.) and 2 signed telegrams, Hanlon has 1 TLS (Andrew M. Lawrence) and 4 signed telegrams. There are: 1 cabinet card, 15 telegrams, 3 ALS, 7 TLS, 3 legal, 10 sheet music, 6 miscellaneous pieces of ephemera for a total of 45 items. Some of the content: contract for aerialists James & Ella Lavail, being awarded the rights to use "Texas Tommy Swing" in production, letter from attorney William Klein regarding the lawsuit brought against Ziegfeld by Lee Shubert and Alice Neilsen, Ziegfeld writes (mainly on his show stationary "Jardin de Paris") of trouble with producer (A.L.) Erlanger, the successes of "Soul Kiss" and 1908 Follies, Hanlon's drinking, Anna's health (shoulder pain), losing a Shubert brothers lawsuit, flirtatious correspondence to Anna from Hanlon (sometimes referred to himself as "J. Taime"), Anna writes to J. Simpson & Co. about them giving back her stolen jewelry which was pawned at Simpson's. The sheet music includes Ziegfeld Follies 1911, 1913, 1919 & 1921, "Rose Of Washington Square"/Fannie Brice, "Whoopee"/Eddie Cantor, "Hooking Cow Blues"/WC Handy. Miscellaneous ephemera includes "Old Poodle Dog Hotel & Restaurant, San Francisco" letterhead with anonymous pencil note, Xerox of Hanlon's obituary (1927), a real estate appraisal from Madison & Burke, San Francisco for property located at southeast Suter and Steiner streets. The typed correspondence tends to be carbon with original signatures. As for the condition, the correspondence is overall good with fold creases, creasing, edge tears, toning, chipping; the sheet music has chipping, tears, creasing, soiling, splitting and one piece is disbound, Handy's sheet music is very good condition. A fantastic collection with such SCARCE items as Eugen Sandow's cabinet card and Handy's "Hooking Cow Blues". A total of 45 pieces, sold as a lot only.
