6 x 4.5", sumptuously bound in dark maroon crushed morocco with curved edges to covers with gilt floral vines to extremities; aeg, silk endpapers with highly gilt-dec borders to paste-downs (the satin on the free endpapers is beginning to fray), front pastedown has the gilt calligraphed initials "I M" (?) with the printed date 19 May 1898, bookticket on front blank from Maria Librairie Papeterie Avignon, 543pp, silk three-strand ribbon bookmark with little medallions of Joan of Arc and a cross with two crossbars; housed in a leather over wood hinged box lined in satin with "A. Maria Avignon" inside of the lid, with small metal push lock; the box is a bit worn, but has gilt calligraphed initials "J M" (?) on lid. Wonderfully preserved presentation.
