8" high, base is 4 x 4.75", some minor chipping at extremities, underside missing a corner, bottom scraped and worn affecting label, but overall very good. Dr. Daniel Williams graduated from Chicago Medical College in 1883, and was one of only four African-American physicians in Chicago at that time. He founded Provident Hospital, and in 1893 he performed the first open heart surgery (the patient lived).
