Collection of Photographs, real photo postcards and newspaper clippings of the Giles and White families of Blissfield, Michigan, late 19th century-1984. [Blissfield Robe and Tanning Co] [Richland Furs]

Blissfield late 19th centu Six cabinet cards, four from DG Freeman and one from SW Phillipson, all Blissfield, one with no photog listed, 6.5 x 4.25, three real photo postcards 3.5 x 5 to 3.5 x 5.5, 11 family photos 2.5 x 2.5 - 3.5 x 5.5, three newspaper clippings, 7.5 x 2 - 10 x 7. All images have names on the back except for two. Cabinet cards have soiling, creasing, chipping, pinholes, postcards are postally unused, soiled, removal marks and one is torn in center and has a small piece missing, photos have light soiling, most have removal marks, two are affixed to an album page (11 x 8), newspaper clippings are toned and two are affixed to the same album page as the photos. Overall good condition. Cabinet cards: Wm G. Giles and wife Cornelia Clark Giles, their daughter Margaret Giles White (2), her husband Robert White, their children Adela and Walter Giles White and Walter by himself. Postcards: Photo of a young man in a baseball uniform with the letter B on it (Blissfield High School baseball team?) and labeled "Dad White--W.G. 1921," farmhouse "Giles Farm Homestead Blissfield," a young woman and her brother "Blissfield 'Old house' Dorothe and brother" (children of Walter G. White). Photographs: young man in football uniform, solo, labeled Blissfield, c 1920s, Walter G ? posing with the football team, house with arbor (faded) "Blissfield Old House. No longer there," Blissfield High School, an older man standing in a town square surrounded by pigeons "in Spain Clement T. Hoagland," two photos of Dorothe White (Walter G's daughter) and her husband Jonathan Taylor and the only color photos, all except one dated 1984: "Giles White Homestead," White house Blissfield," "Neal and Steph's country place" and same title different image. Smaller newspaper clippings: wedding announcement for Dorothe and Jonathan and a pig roast at Neal and Stephanie Hoagland's property. The large clipping was taken from the Aug 2 (or 3), 1977 issue of the Adrian Telegram and shows a large photo "1906: The Blissfield Robe and Tanning Co," handwritten note at the bottom "Dadf White-center-front row." Lamont C. Hoagland founed the Blissfield Robe and Tanning Co in 1899 and in 1902 sold it to his father-in-law Walter G White. In 1924, Clement T. Hoagland bought the company from his grandfather Walter G. White and formed a partnership with his father Lamon (the founder) and Lewis Richards. It became Richland Furs in 1928. A total of 23 items sold as a lot only. Nice Blissfield history.
