Wedding Album Photographs showing Henry Ford at the June 1938 wedding reception of Mary Sherman Mitchell, daughter of Ledyard and Sara Sherman Mitchell, to Paul Deming, Jr., son of Paul Sr. and Mary Smith Deming. [Deigh-Navin].

Grosse Pointe June 11, 1938 Photography by Deigh-Navin. 28 unlabeled b&w photographs, 25 are 8 x 10 and 5 are 3 x 4.5, plus one loose mounted group shot for a total of 29 photos. Album is oblong 9.5 x 13, stiff dark green wraps, 52 pp + endpapers. Album covers have light soiling and wear, pages have light creasing, one photo has light soiling on one edge, mount of group photo has glue stains, soiling and creasing else all photos are very good. Henry Ford appears in three photos: in the receiving line greeting the bride and groom, talking to the father of the groom Paul Deming Sr., and posing with two priests and a wedding guest. Both fathers had automotive connections: Paul Deming had been an executive with White Motor Car before going into banking, Ledyard Mitchell was the former president of Maxwell Motor Car, and after Maxwell's merger with Chrysler he became its vice president. After their wedding at SS. Peter and Paul's church in Grosse Pointe a reception was held in the backyard of the bride's parents. Photos in the album show group shots, receiving line, people mingling, eating, cutting the cake, tossing the bridal bouquet etc. Comes with: a scrapbook with newspaper clippings (affixed and loose) on the engagement and wedding. The young couple's happiness was unfortunately short-lived. In 1943 while her husband was serving in the Army she gave birth to their second child. At that time, she was accidentally given an overdose of medicine and she died. Her husband never remarried. Jack Navin of the Deigh-Navin photography studio was a prominent New York fashion and society photographer and the son of Frank Navin, the former owner of the Detroit Tigers.
