Photo Album with mainly hunting and fishing photos from 1926 - 1928; hunting photos were taken at the private hunting and fishing retreat Grouse Haven in Ogemaw County, Michigan, with was owned by Henry Mulford Jewett, the president of Paige-Detroit Motor

Various 1926-1928. 165 b&w photos, 2.25 x 3.25 to 4.5 x 3.5, plus 11 loose photos for a total of 176 photos, minimally labeled. Album is oblong 11.5 x 15, pebbled brown leather with gilt lettering and replacement cloth ties, 23 of 50 pages filled in. Covers are worn, rubbed with edge curling, pages lightly creased and soiled, light soiling to a few photos else good/very good. The scenes at Grouse Haven show hunters and their dogs, the lodge, a large number of game hanging up on the outside of the lodge, a large number of game hanging up on the outside of the lodge, hunters and their guns, eating outdoors, etc. Other photos in the album show flyfishing at Petit Pabos/Little Pabos near the Gaspe Peninsula in Quebec; home and family; travel to Jamaica, Martinique, Haiti, Curacao, Porto Rico (sic), Venesuela (sic) and Bermuda. Of particular interest are photos of a hunting trip to Milford Manor (Plantation?) and St. Helena Island, both in South Carolina. Shown in the Milford photos are hunters in the field with their dogs and horses, Spanish Moss, "Batchelor's house," "Milford Manor," "Bungalow." Milford Plantation was used as a winter retreat and for hunting and fishing from the early 1920s to the early 1990s. St. Helena's photos includes "Sox's Lodge," "Pope Farm Chapel," (actually the "Chapel of Ease," used by Freedmen's groups after the Civil War), "Road to Penn School" (one of the country's first schools for freed slaves), "Native" graveyard, "Bushman" (shows an African-American ? sleeping in a cart that is attached to a mule, "The Sketch" shows and African-American working man posing, one non St. Helena "Cain and Family Pine Island" which shows an African-American family posing out-of-doors. An interesting collection of history.
