Original Framed and Matted Photograph of the elaborate Queen Anne-style boathouse of Hugo Scherer of H. Scherer and Co., Detroit Forging Co., and Michigan Steel Boat Co, located behind his home at 745 Jefferson Ave., Detroit.

np (Detroit) nd (1896-1903) Photograph is oblong 6 x 7, wooden frame is 16.5 x 18, cream colored mat. Photo (not examined out of frame) has a small amount of faint spotting, mat is waterstained, soiled and spotted, frame has scratches, abrasions and wear, backing is two pieces of wood with staining and soiling, one piece of the wood was removed and showed the back of the mount and photo to be very darkened, will need to be reframed, etc. Written on the back of the mount: H. Scherer, 745 Jeff. Located at 745 Jefferson between the years of 1896 and 1903 was Hugo Scherer. In 1896 he specialized in carriage goods, iron and steel and bicycles and in 1903 it was known as the H. Scherer & Co., Detroit Forging Co. and Michigan Steel Boat Co. His home address for both years was 745 Jefferson Ave. The person we acquired the photo from said it was from Detroit and not too far from the Belle Isle Bridge (14 blocks). His business was located at 280-284 Jefferson Ave. The photo shows a two-story boat house with leaded glass windows, upstairs porch along the back, there are three boats tied up (rowboats and sailboat). Behind it is a carriage and a large house with a cupola. Nice image of a bygone era. Sold as is.
