Group of 44 black & white photographs of the main Hudson't department store in downtown Detroit. Photos are from 1914-1954.

Detroit 1914-1954. 8 x 10, various photographers but majority is by Davis B. Hillmer, some photos do not list the photog, 30 photos are not dated but are similar to the other dated photos or images in reference books. Light wear, creasing, occasional pinholes and light soiling, a few have some edgewear and chipping but overall very good condition. Majority of the photos are between 1914-1940s, only a small amount from the 1950s. Two or three appear to be reprints but remainder are original. Shown are the famous street window displays featuring Christmas, women’s fashions, home furnishings, travel, Jewel Gas ranges and more. Interior views of mens’ fashion, interior design, radios, basement store, escalator, dining rooms, etc. Exceptional are the views of the 1914 addition, north of the store along Woodward, next to Himelhoch’s; photos include one of the 48th G.A.R. parade passing in front of the construction barricade. Another group of photos from the 1920s show exterior views including one showing the Woodward Avenue side decorated for Christmas. Hudson’s also owned a music store, the "JL Hudson Piano & Victrola Store" on nearby Library St. There are two photos of it, a façade and one of two men on the roof and one of the men (a Webber brother? The Webbers were JL Hudson’s nephews and heirs) laying a brick along the top edge. There is also a mounted photo of a Thanksgiving Day parade, maybe from the 1940s/50s. One unrelated ? photo is of the groundbreaking ceremony for the Electrograph Company on West Fort St., just west of downtown Detroit. There are several people present, and none are identified. This company did direct mail advertising so perhaps they were "related" to Hudson’s this way. Collection comes with a booklet of the "Housewares Exposition Entire Tenth Floor Hudson’s, Directory of Exhibits and Demonstrations," nd. Absolutely wonderful collection of scarce Hudson photographs. Sold as a lot only
