np 1888-1892 Illustr, 12.5 x 10, blindstamped cloth with gilt lettering, pagination should be 303-456, but pages have been cut out or have had the page numbers covered up, last page in book is visible and it is page 456, there are 69 scrapbook pages. Covers worn, spotted, stained, extremities bumped, worn and fraying, contents have occasional light staining, small tears, toning, pages cut out, almost 40 pages do not have clippings pasted on them, a few loose clippings, overall good. Almost all the clippings are identified either by the newspaper or by the scrapbook keeper. Majority of subject matter is architectural and the remainder is mostly outdoor scenes from various locales. Some of the contents: San Francisco: printed photos of the residences of RP Ashe and Theodore Payne, California and Palace Hotels, article on James Lick/Lick Observatory. Also Berkeley; Fresno; Los Angeles: Bellevue Terrace; Mendocino: Cuffey’s Cove; Mariposa, Co: Wawona Hotel; Montgomery; Napa, Sonoma; Yosemite: Stoneman House. Other states shown: Colorado; Illinois: Chicago Exposition; Iowa: Creston: Blue Grass Palace, Michigan: Detroit: residences of James McMillan, Joseph Berry, Oregon: Chemawa: Indian Training School, New York: Saratoga Springs: Union Free School Building, Washington, Utah. Also a chromolithograph of "Pres Cleveland’s cottage near Washington." And much, much more. An enjoyable look at times past.
