Knopf: NY 1955 7.5 x 5, turquoise cloth, 194 pp + index, covers lightly worn with a couple of small abrasions on front cover at hinge, extremities lightly bumped and fraying, hinges loose, rear hinge a little sprung from related material (present), former owner's signed bookplate inside front cover, eps toned, some glue marks from inserted pieces else a decent copy in a rather edge-worn dust jacket. FIRST ED, INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY AUTHOR, ROGER BURLINGAME. ALSO INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY HENRY FORD'S GRANDSON (AND OWNER OF THE DETROIT LIONS) WILLIAM CLAY FORD (3/7/55), AND SIGNED BY BENSON FORD (11/8/55), HENRY FORD II (10/16/57), JOSEPHINE FORD (7/22/58) AND ELEANOR CLAY FORD (EDSEL'S WIFE, 3/24/60). INSERTED ARE CARDS SIGNED BY EDSEL FORD (Jan. 24, 1934), A CARD INSCRIBED BY EDSEL B. FORD, AND A SIGNATURE OF MRS. HENRY FORD MOUNTED ON A CARD AFFIXED TO HALF TITLE. LOOSELY AFFIXED (GLUE DID NOT HOLD) ON PAGE OPPOSITE TITLE PAGE IS A CARD SIGNED BY HENRY FORD. Typed label attached to card tells of the book's former owner obtaining the Henry Ford autograph at Detroit's Union Depot, erroneously stating that it was obtained in late 1947 (Ford died in April of 1947). Also included is a color photo of the book's former owner and his wife in front of a portrait of Henry Ford, and a reproduction of a newspaper cartoon "Strange as It Seems by Elsie Hix" featuring the book's former owner, relating the story about the Ford autograph, inscribed and signed by Elsie Hix, with typed label attached. Unusual to find so many Ford family autogrpahs in one book!
