DETROIT OF TO-DAY The City of the Strait, Its Growth, Resources, Commerce, Manufacturing Concerns, Financial Institutions And Prospects...Also Views Of The Nation's Pride, The World's Columbian Exposition

Phoenix Publishing Co.: Detroit & Chicago (1893) Illus., oblong 8 x 11", blindstamped brown cloth, gilt lettering on front cover, lpl, 11-272 + 15pp on the Columbian Exposition. EX-LIBRARY, covers have some soiling, wear to extremities, corners and spine tips bumped and worn, inner hinges cracked and covers loose, free front endpaper detached, chipped and torn, possibly missing a blank page, toned, light smudging, a few margin tears, else contents very good. There are 45 pages on Detroit and Detroit History ie. parks and boulevards, Museum of Art, manufacturing industries, transportation facilities, photo of Detroit's exposition building, Central Market, Detroit Athletic Club, City Hall. The remainder is filled with biographies of businesses: Beller's Garden & Summer Resort, Detroit Brewing Co., J.A. Dick & Co. Undertakers, Grinnell Bros. Real estate company entries ie. Hannan, Reaume, Van Husan are quite interesting because the entries list the properties they have acquired. Also some very nice full page ads with photos: Calvert Lith., Detroit Safe Co., Detroit Tent & Awning, Parke Davis, Coller Steam Yacht & Engine Works. An essential book for that era for individuals and businesses either currently in the city or planning to move to Detroit. A very enjoyable read. We have never seen this book before and we have seen many early Detroit books over the years. SCARCE. FIRST EDITION.
